At a young age Georgina became an all-round sportswoman.

As a Modern Pentathlete, she won over 30 international medals and sustained a World Ranking in the top 5 from 2001-2008.

Two weeks before the 2004 Olympics, Harland was diagnosed with a possible stress fracture in her tibia. She was unable to train until the day of competition itself; nevertheless, she won a bronze medal.

Harland retired from international competition in 2008.

Her role as a sports psychologist has included work with the Great Britain Canoeing team in 2009. She was then also appointed chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Athletes Committee:

"My aim is to ensure the athletes are represented fairly and their opinions and ideas are heard because they are instrumental to the sport. I have got 10 really good years out of pentathlon and now I want to give something back".

She was the Modern Pentathlon Athletes Role Model for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

She is a Sports Engagement Manager for the British Olympic Association, and a member of the Mission 2012 panel reviewing the performance plans of UK sports prior to forthcoming Olympic Games.
