The museum is housed within the
library and has changing displays of objects of local interest.
These include a cricket bat, made in Sevenoaks, which is one of the
oldest on display anywhere and a C19th brass fireman's helmet from
the Sevenoaks 'Readies' volunteer fire brigade. More items can be
seen in cases around the library: for example fossils, archaeology
and a Second World War embroidery made by evacuees from London and
local schoolchildren.
There are family trails and quizzes in the museum and discovery
boxes of objects that can be handled by visitors.
School visits are encouraged and teachers can contact the Curator
to discuss the needs of a particular class. Teachers are also
welcome to borrow our boxes of objects for handling, on the themes
of Education, Horse Transport and the Second World War.
The museum is working with the library and art gallery to provide a
programme of events and activities, including children's craft
workshops, story-time for under fives, evening talks and special
themed events like our recent 'Russian Night'.
The Museum is fully accessible to wheelchair users and there are
some objects for handling which have Braille labels.
