Kent Museums Group

Aims

The promotion of all museums in the county of Kent and the encouragement of the development of good professional practice within museums in Kent.

Objectives

• To increase within their governing bodies the level of appreciation of the value and importance of museums.
• To raise public awareness of Kentish museums.
• To formulate a development strategy for museum provision within the county.
• To provide a forum for the discussion of collecting and other policies and for issues affecting museums in Kent.
• To encourage liaison and joint working between member museums.
• To promote the training, development and acquisition of skills in museum workers of all levels.
• To advise and comment on museum development in Kent.

Membership

Membership is open to anyone involved in the operation, management, or government of a museum within Kent upon payment of the annual subscription. Subscriptions are due at the Annual General Meeting in October every year, and if they remain unpaid, membership will be deemed to have lapsed and information will no longer be sent out.

Meetings

Regular quarterly meetings are held in different parts of Kent. They include a business meeting, a training session on a current topic and a tour of the host museum. A visit to a museum further afield in the UK (or sometimes in mainland Europe) is arranged each year.

Information

The Minutes and Agenda for meetings are sent to all paid up members together with any useful information provided by the members for circulation.
