Ever thought about being a library volunteer?
We're looking for young people to:
- help out at homework clubs
- work as web wizards (helping library computer users)
- assist with activities in our libraries.
Check out
current vacancies and find out what other volunteers think
about Time2Give by reading one of our
volunteer's experience. Contact us for more information and an
application pack, or fill in and send us the
downloadable form.
In return, we can offer:
- A volunteer's library ticket - As long as you
volunteer with us, you will be entitled to free DVD and CD loans.
In addition, you won't have to pay fines if your books are overdue
(but sorry... fines still apply if DVDs and CDs are late!).
- Help with expenses - We will pay your public
transport fares or a petrol allowance to get you to the library
where you are volunteering. If you are a carer, we can help with a
contribution towards care costs while you are volunteering.
- A named contact at the library and Time2Give -
The library person will be on hand to answer any queries or
concerns you may have about your volunteering sessions in the
library. With this person, you will be able to discuss issues such
as Health and Safety, Child Protection issues (if relevant) and
your progress. Time2Give will help you with any more general
queries about volunteering.
- Training opportunities - You will be invited
to the library where you wish to volunteer, to meet the staff and
familiarise yourself with the building (fire procedures, security
codes etc). We will give you on-the-job training that is relevant
to your particular volunteering interest (eg story times, Baby
Rhyme Times). In addition, there is a range of optional training
and networking events. We will also invite you to a library
induction day, which will familiarise you with Kent Libraries and
Archives. These sessions are offered to all staff, and are a good
way to meet people from other libraries. Other training
opportunities, such as our regular "Ideas into Action" conferences,
will also be open to you. CSV will organise 10 events during the
year, at varied location in the county, to meet other volunteers,
and listen to a speaker on a library or volunteering topic.
- Award validation - If you are volunteering
with us because you're working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award or
Millennium Volunteer Award, a member of staff can validate your
logbook and write up the "Comments" section for you.
- A volunteering buddy - We will try to find a
buddy to support you in volunteering if you would like some extra
help.
