Bookstart scheme

The Bookstart scheme gives books to young children - FREE!

Local libraries work in partnership with health authorities and pre-school settings so that

Father reading to his baby Children up to 12 months receive a Bookstart bag

  • Children aged one to two years receive a Bookstart Plus bag
  • Children aged three years receive a Bookstart Treasure Chest

These packs contain books, helpful information and an invitation to join the library.

Nationally, the Bookstart scheme (this link opens in a new window) has shown that giving books to young children enhances their educational development.

Bookstart book crawl

Look out for the The Bookstart Book Crawl , specially designed to encourage you to bring your pre-school Book crawl packchildren to the library. We'll give your child a collector's card to keep, and a sticker for each visit. After four stickers your child will earn a specially designed fun certificate. There are up to ten designs to collect, so why not keep visiting and collect them all. It's free!

Visit any Kent Library (including mobiles) to take part from now until 31 March 2008.

The Bookstart Book Crawl encourages a library habit that we hope will keep your children reading for the rest of their lives.
