Caring for Kent's heritage
|
The archaeological sites, historic landscapes
and buildings of Kent form the historic environment. As we
live and work in Kent today, we see this historic environment
all around us. It connects us with the past, enabling us to
understand where we have come from and to see how modern Kent
has assumed its present character. Our past also has an
important role to play in the future. Historic remains can
help new communities gain a sense of place and belonging.
Similarly, they can help to regenerate older communities -
older buildings and monuments often form the most distinctive
and prized elements of a modern town.
Kent's historic environment is also very
important to the county's economy as our heritage attracts
huge numbers of tourists every year. In addition, it provides
residents with opportunities for exploration and enjoyment,
offering great days out for people of all ages.
Kent County Council operates a number of services that conserve,
enhance and promote Kent's heritage. |
