Kent County Council maintains a range of publicly
accessible information resources on the county's heritage, in
particular the Historic Environment Record for Kent (HER). The HER
contains information about 20,000 archaeological discoveries and
17,000 listed buildings. We also maintain a collection of more than
4,000 archaeological reports and many photographs and
maps.
Our 'Exploring Kent's Past' project is funded by the Heritage
Lottery Fund and will make these resources as widely available as
possible. The HER will soon be available online and our outreach
programme is helping people throughout Kent enjoy learning about
the past.
Archaeological information from around the county will soon be
available in our online database. You can also view these records
by visiting the Heritage Conservation Group in Maidstone. Please
contact us to book an appointment.
We have produced three education packs for schools - a village
study of Wye, a local history study of Canterbury and a landscape
study of Vinters Park.
Learn about the development of Kent's towns with our historic
towns reports.
We maintain an extensive collection of aerial photographs of
Kent and these can be viewed at our office in Maidstone.
This project is designed to ensure that archaeological work in
the south east is focused on addressing the most important
questions that need further investigation.
We give talks and presentations to groups across Kent. If you
would like us to visit your group, please contact
us. |
