Walk of the month
A winter wonderland walk - Enchantment on your
doorstep
Winter may not be the warmest time of the year to take a stroll
in the Kent countryside however offset this against the spectacular
changes of the season and rolling crisp hills and you will find
yourself wrapped up with our winter warmer walk of the
month.Cranbrook is a picturesque village near Tunbridge Wells and
this circular route, as featured in the December issue of SO
Tunbridge Wells magazine, offers some unrivalled scenery and
magnificent winter colours. The village itself contains many
historic buildings dating from the 15th and 19th century relating
to the textile industry. The windmill in particular, the largest
working windmill in England, is certainly a highlight of the
village.
Starting at the White Horse Inn on the high
street, this 3 mile route offers a stile free walk and also
enables you to enjoy the village of Sissinghurst and possibly
a visit to the gardens at Sissinghurst Castle - a former manor
house once visited by Queen Elizabeth I.Sissinghurst Castle
Garden, conserved by the National Trust is among the most
celebrated in the world. The gardens were created by Vita
Sackville-West, the Kent author and poet, and her husband Sir
Harold Nicolson.
