Wye and Crundale rides

Enjoy the glorious countryside scenery while riding through the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (link opens in a new window) near Ashford - an area rich in flora and fauna with a wide range of habitats.

The riding routes comprise two short and four long loops which can be combined in any way to provide a long distance ride of up to 17 miles, taking just over four hours to complete.

A horse rider enjoying one of the Wye and Crundale routesThe routes take advantage of bridleways, byways and sections of quiet minor roads. Special care is needed along the narrow, twisting lanes. Sections of the North Downs Way National Trail (link opens in a new window) are open to riders in this area.

The routes run close to Wye National Nature Reserve with its chalk grassland and woodland on steep coombes. Not only is the reserve home to 21 recorded orchid species, it also features the Devil's Kneading Trough, a dry, steep-sided valley formed by peri-glacial action near the end of the last ice age.

Limited parking is available for horseboxes and trailers at Sunley Farms Ltd, tel: 01227 730293. If you wish to park your box or trailer at this site please telephone beforehand to make arrangements.
