Soak up the atmosphere of one of Britain's most popular
areas of woodland as you ride around Bedgebury Forest. Bedgebury
has a good network of toll rides and public bridleways, making it
ideal for riders of all abilities.
The 2000 acre forest is a famous conservation site and riders
can enjoy the surroundings of impressive trees and wildflowers, as
well as some of Britain's rare wildlife.
With 12km of riding tracks and a trail map,
Bedgebury provides an excellent riding experience. Horse
riders with TROT (Toll Rides Off-Road Trust) (link
opens in a new window) permits will find way-marked trails
linking to other existing bridleways, creating a network of
horse-friendly routes around the forest.
Having worked up a healthy appetite amongst the trees, visit
Bedgebury Pantry for a delicious range of freshly-made sandwiches,
baguettes, bagels and cakes.
With a collection of more than 10,000 tree specimens growing in
320 acres, the adjoining
Bedgebury National Pinetum (link opens in a new
window) includes many rare, historically important and endangered
trees. The Pinetum has Britain's tallest cypress, at over 135ft
tall and can claim the tallest tree in the county, 'The Old Man of
Kent', which is a giant silver fir measuring 165ft.
Nearby,
Bedgebury Park Equestrian Centre (link opens in
a new window), a BHS approved establishment, offers a range of
courses and holidays tailored to the individual requirements of
riders. Lessons are available for riders of all standards, whether
they wish to compete seriously or just enjoy the superb riding in
the forest.
Secure parking is available for TROT members. For more
information contact TROT on 01622 735599.
