Walking in Kent goes hi-tech

South Foreland media player guideA new Explore Kent walking guide designed for use on portable media players has just been released.

The South Foreland Lighthouse media player guide can be used on a range of handheld MP3 players and mobile phones. This means walkers now have the option of leaving their map at home and following the route using onscreen instructions.

The free guide comprises a route description, maps and photo-guide that walkers can scroll through, making it easy to follow the 4 mile (6.4km) walk along the iconic White Cliffs of Dover.

KCC's Head of Countryside Access, Mike Overbeke, said:
"Portable media players are extremely popular and we hope that this guide will encourage more people to get out and explore the Kent countryside.

"We've started with one of our most used routes, and if it proves popular with the public, we aim to produce more of these guides in the future."

The guide is available in two formats (for larger and smaller screens) providing a choice depending on the type of player being used.

A guide for the South Foreland walk is also available to download.
