Customer searching through archives

The East Kent Archives Centre holds records about the Dover, Shepway and Thanet District Council areas, including the seaside towns of Margate and Ramsgate, the busy ports of Dover and Folkestone and the Cinque Ports of Lydd, New Romney, Hythe and Sandwich as well as inland areas including the Kent coalfields and Romney Marsh.

Within these collections you can find the records of local authorities, schools, hospitals, businesses, families and estates, as well as microfilm copies of local census returns. Parish records are not held here.

Please check our opening hours prior to any visit. We also advise visitors to book a seat in advance to avoid disappointment. You can do so either by telephone, letter or email.
