In 2003 the Heritage Lottery Fund made funds available to develop the abandoned Gunpowder Works in Oare, as a country park with a unique blend of history and wildlife. Since then extensive research, planning and renovation work has taken place to revitalise the site and enable visitors to enjoy the industrial and natural environment of Oare Gunpowder Works.

The Visitor Centre is open to the public on weekends and public holidays from mid-March to mid-November, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Inside there are displays explaining how gunpowder was made at Oare and reflecting the part the Works played in the development of Faversham. An information leaflet details the historical remains and the wildlife that can be found on the site.

The surfaced walking trails around the site are colour coded and lead around through the woodland and past the remains of the buildings. Different trails pass close to the massive walls of the Corning House, alongside the canals (or leats), across the Marshland Boardwalk and onto the viewing deck of the millpond. Other trails lead to the firing range and through the open grassland. At key points throughout the site there are interpretation panels reflecting the unique blend of wildlife and history. The boards include old photographs of buildings and information about the wildlife still present in the area.
