Just outside Canterbury along the River Stour is a hidden haven for people and wildlife alike. This 50 acre wetland is owned by Love Hambrook Marshes Trust and is open all the time. The trust manages the land for everyone to enjoy, and also runs work and training activities in conservation and land management skills. Find out how you can get involved.

The lovely fields of wildflowers that now border the river were once a 40 foot deep quarry – gravel and sand were excavated and used to build the road that now by-passes Canterbury.  The quarry was then filled with chalky stone from further south of Canterbury. Discover more about the history and wildlife of the marshes by pausing to read information panels as you explore.

Easy access information

Hambrook Marshes has a shared use walking and cycling path, suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs – but please be aware of cyclists! The closest refreshments and toilets can be found at Toddler’s Cove playground.
