Parish registers

Parish registers are records of baptisms, marriages, and burials made by the Church. They are a great resource for researching your family tree because official records of birth, marriage and death do not go back further than 1837. Many parish registers go back to the 1600s.

Finding parish registers

Parish registers are still held locally. Before you start searching you'll need to know at least the area and preferably the parish as there are over 400 parishes in Kent.

Use our where to find Kent's parish registers guide (PDF, 1.5 MB) to find out which record office holds the register you're looking for.
