Your County - Putting Kent First

Kent 4 star Council

Kent Waste Partnership

The Kent Waste Partnership (KWP) was formed in April 2007. It is made up of Kent's district and borough councils, which are responsible for waste collection in Kent, and Kent County Council, which is responsible for disposal. The Partnership replaces the previous Kent Waste Forum and formalises the working relationship between the 13 councils.

Kent Waste Strategy

As its' first step as a united partnership, the KWP has developed a sustainable strategy for the management of household waste in Kent over the next 20 years. In the development of the strategy, Kent residents were asked for their views and opinions, and these shaped the goals and targets of the strategy. You can view the feedback from the consultation (opens in a new window) here.

Meetings

The Kent Waste Partnership's Joint Waste Management Committee is made up of the cabinet members responsible for waste management from each council in the partnership. This committee meets roughly three times a year to agree the strategic direction of waste management in Kent. Download or view minutes of previous meetings.

The Kent Waste Partnership's Officer Advisory Group is made up of officers from the waste management teams of each council in the partnership. This group meets roughly four times a year to discuss the management of the waste service in Kent and to agree how to achieve the targets of the annual strategy action plans.

Kent Waste Forum Event

The 22nd April has been known globally for almost forty years as 'Earth Day' and with the current and well documented fears for the environment reaching an all time high, it could not have been a more fitting time for Kent to focus their intentions and attention to the great concerns of household waste and in particular, packaging.

The Kent Waste Forum brought together members of Kent County Council and leaders of local authorities, national organisations, suppliers and retailers to discuss and tackle these issues. Sheila Wheeler; Chief Executive of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council chaired the event and was joined by three challenging and informative speakers. Dick Searle; Chief Executive of The Packaging Federation, Chris Davey; Manager of Local Authority Relations for WRAP and Dr Mark Caul; Senior Packaging Technologist for Marks and Spencer.
