Staff profiles
The following profiles are intended to highlight the typical
opportunities, discounts and savings which are part of KCC’s
rewards package.
See if there is anything which you’d choose too…
Lauren
Lauren
works part-time in support services, she is a lone parent with 3
children and can find it difficult to make ends meet. When she was
going through a particularly difficult time, her cooker broke and
the Help Fund was able to give her a loan to find a replacement.
Lauren used KentRewards.com for some Christmas presents and now
saves on her grocery shopping by getting discounts there too.
Lauren has worked for KCC for more than 5 years so benefits from
an extra 3 days annual leave. She asked to sell this which was
agreed by her manager.
Savings: Kent Rewards £120, Selling leave £120 (net),
Total £240
Miral
Miral is 28
years old and has started work recently in Environment &
Regeneration.
She was attracted to KCC because she could see a good career
path and the opportunity to make a positive impact on environmental
issues is important to her.
Miral was pleased that her salary is more competitive than from
her last employer and is impressed by both KCC’s commitment of up
to 5 days personal development each year and the wider benefits
package on offer. She has already signed up for Spanish lessons
making use of the 10% Adult Education discount and she has booked
onto a number of the events and trips that the StaffClub
offers.
Miral does not live close to where she works but has found that
she can save money and has the opportunity to talk with her new
friend she has met through the car sharing scheme. This also helps
her travel in a ‘greener’ way.
Savings: StaffClub - £45, Car share £400/year, Adult Ed.
- £12, Annual Savings £457
Alison
Alison is
a school Finance Manager and has been working in various jobs in
KCC for 15 years. She finds both her working and domestic lives
busy since she has 2 teenage children and elderly parents to look
after.
Alison didn’t join the pension scheme
at first but realised a final salary pension was good to have and
joined later. She now has 11 years pensionable service. She knows
it is possible to add to her pension fund in a tax efficient way
and will contact Pensions to discuss the options available to
her.
Alison wants to have some sort of
regular exercise but because of time commitments finds it difficult
to take advantage of the discounts available on health and fitness
clubs. She lives quite close to work so instead she has signed up
for the Cycle2Work scheme enabling her to obtain a bicycle tax free
and pay for it out of her salary over 12 months. She chose a £600
bike package and is a higher rate tax payer. She has found that she
actually enjoys coming to work this way and sometimes it is quicker
than using the car.
Alison heard about the saving she
could make using KentRewards.com so decided to look there first.
She received 3% cashback on a television costing £650. She has now
decided to use KentRewards as much as possible for her normal
shopping too.
Savings: Bicycle - £289,
KentRewards - £19.50, Total £308.50
