Apprenticeships are a fantastic way of getting work-based training. You'll do real jobs for real employers, training on the job and earning while you learn.

Apprenticeships are open to anyone over 16, whether you're leaving school, want to start a new career or moving into a new role with your existing employer that requires new skills

Find an apprenticeship

If you can't find an apprenticeship that's right for you, think about:

contacting local employers and ask if they would consider taking you on as an apprentice
responding to job adverts in the local paper
searching your district or borough council’s website

Supporting young people

We have undertaken a project to support vulnerable young people into apprenticeships, with employers across the county from both the public and private sector. The project is aimed at those who will struggle most to access education, training or employment. There are 80 places on offer, 20 of which will be within the authority itself.

Rates of pay for apprentices

You start earning from day one. Your employer must pay you no less than £2.65 per hour.
The average wage for an apprentice is about £170 a week, and for some jobs £210.
