Training and development

It is vital that our staff have the right skills, knowledge and behaviours to enable them to provide the best possible service to the people of Kent.

New staff receive an induction to KCC within the first three months.

All staff have an annual written personal development plan, which is agreed with their manager. Progress against their plan is reviewed every six months.

In addition to this, all staff are guaranteed a minimum of five days' training each year, which could be a mixture of on-the-job training, attending a day-release course at college, joining an in-house management development programme or short course, reading a book or learning on the web. Staff can also use up to two of these days for volunteering activities.

We offer a huge range of courses, from IT skills training to NVQs and diplomas. Our successful development programmes include workshops covering Time Management, Realising your Potential, Business Writing Skills and Introduction to Project Management, to name but a few.

We also support staff to take part in job shadowing, mentoring and secondments as part of their personal and professional development. Staff can choose to use up to two of these days for volunteering activities.
