PG PROGRESS – Production Management
The Development Strand
For Tomorrow's Production Manager's
Following the great success of the pilot PG Progress – Production Management Programme, we now invite applications from established film and TV drama Co-ordinators, Location Managers and 1st and 2nd Assistant Directors who are keen to progress to the next level of their careers as Production Managers.
PG PROGRESS is an individually tailored programme of professional development covering the essential disciplines of the film production management role. Delivered through short courses and personal coaching from the cream of the UK’s physical production management talent, PG PROGRESS will ensure that those selected will fast-track to work as PMs in the British Film Industry.
So if you have a minimum of three, professional credits in a production office, floor or locations capacity, and have been thinking about making the move into production management, PG PROGRESS has been made for you.
The Production Guild is committed to achieving diversity in all of its activity and welcomes applications from people currently under-represented in the industry such as women returning to the industry, individuals from ethnic minorities and people with disabilities. Funded by the Skillset Film Skills Fund and based at Pinewood Studios, PG PROGRESS will run from September – October 2008.

PG PROGRESS – ACCOUNTS II is an individually tailored programme of professional development covering the essential disciplines of the film production accountant role. Delivered through short courses and interactive coaching from the cream of the UK’s Production Accounting talent, PG PROGRESS – Production Accounting will ensure that those selected will fast-track to work as Production Accountants in the British Film Industry.
So if you have a minimum of three, professional credits in a Key Assistant role and have been thinking about making the move to Production Accountant, PG PROGRESS – Accounting has been set up for you.

PG EMPOWERS – The Saturday Seminars
PG EMPOWERS is an innovative seminar programme designed to expand the working knowledge of existing UK film and TV industry practitioners. The one day seminars delivered on Saturdays over a period of six months will improve both personal and professional business acumen, awareness and understanding of current legislation and emerging technologies within the UK film industry.
In addition we aim to provide a forum where a code of best practice can be evolved in the areas where these professionals operate.

C4’s The TV Show is looking for Audience Members!
The TV Show is a monthly pre-watershed, 30-minute, live discussion programme, presented by Krishnan Guru Murthy, in which members of the public debate what they have enjoyed and disliked on TV over the past month. The show gives viewers a chance to directly quiz programme-makers and broadcasters from C4, as well as other channels, about their shows and the issues they raised.

The 10th Leeds Young Peoples' Film Festival
The Leeds Young Peoples' Film Festival is now accepting submissions for the 2009 Festival, taking place on Thu 2 April - Fri 10 April 2009
We are now looking for exciting and innovative films made both FOR and BY children and young people from across the UK and the world. The films can be shorts or features in any genre (fiction, documentary, animation) and in any format. With an established reputation as the most interactive young peoples' Festival in the United Kingdom, we want films that will excite and motivate our audiences and that showcase the best and newest young filmmakers from around the globe.
NYFA (National Young Filmmakers' Award) is for short films made BY children and young people (up to 19 years old) in the UK. Selected films will be entered into competition where a jury comprising of industry professionals will award £250 prizes in two age categories to the chosen films. Deadline for entries is Friday 30th January 2009.
LYPFF - this category is for any films that are made specifically FOR children and young people. Entries can be any length, genre or format and submissions from anywhere in the world are welcomed. Deadline for entries is Monday 15th December 2008.

Digital Horizons
Cinema Extreme
Cinema Extreme has previously commissioned many film makers first films such as Kent's own Andrea Arnold's Oscar Winning Wasp.
The Uk Film Council and Film4 will offer one of the filmmakers commissioned by Cinema Extreme the opportunity to develop their feature to first draft.They plan to commission 4 short films with a budget of no more than £50,000 per film.

PHILIPPA GREGORY and “THE OTHER QUEEN” Penshurst Place & Gardens
Sunday 14th September 2008 at 6pm
Philippa Gregory, author of international best-selling novels including The Other Boleyn Girl and The Boleyn Inheritance, will be visiting Penshurst Place on Sunday 14 September 2008 to introduce her new novel, The Other Queen, in a unique event.
This remarkable opportunity to discuss with Philippa, will feature an introduction to the leading characters in The Other Queen, including Mary Queen of Scots and Bess of Hardwick. Philippa will share her recent research into the life, times and relationships of the Tudors.
Visitors to the event will be able to discuss with the author her current and previous titles, and have books signed by the author herself.
The Other Queen will be published by HarperCollins on 25th August 2008 and will be available for purchase at the event.

The Lantern Festival
The Lantern Festival is showcasing both local and international Film, Photography, Music and Art Submissions. The Festival seeks to promote new talent in the fields of moving image, photography and graphic art, as well as music.

S1 / salon Competition
S1 Artspace is currently inviting submissions for its annual season of artists' film and video screenings, S1 / salon. Artists are invited to submit works for three new programmes to be screened at S1 later this year.
S1 / salon is curated around material selected from an open call with the intention of creating a platform for presenting film & video without prescribed themes or categories. There are no stipulations for material other than the work must be under 15 minutes.
The deadline for applications is 26 August 2008 (12 noon).

The Three Graces
Swarovski and Tank have launched a competition to discover new film-makers. The Three Graces competition is an open call to film-makers and creatives working with the moving image to develop a short film to accompany one of three exclusive tracks specially commissioned for the project.
Submissions will interpret the myth of the Three Graces, who symbolise the qualities of radiance, joy and abundance.
The film competition has three rounds running over seven months. There is a cash prize of €1,500 for each round and a grand prize of €3,500, which will be awarded in January 2009. Submissions will be judged by a prestigious panel of film-makers and leading industry insiders.
The deadline for the first round of entries is 25 August 2008 but it is possible to enter at any time as the following rounds are as follows;
Round two - 28th August - 28th October 2008
Round three - 31st October - 29th December 2008

Make a Trailer For Your Film Idea and You Could Be Whisked Off to LA
Sony Magazine's Make a Movie competition is inviting budding filmmakers to make the trailer of their best film idea. The winners of the competition will be flown to Los Angeles to talk their film ideas over with a top Hollywood producer at Sony Pictures Studios. The competition is open to fictional work as well as documentary or animation. The trailer can be up to 3 minutes long.
Deadline for entries is August 31, 2008.

Canterbury Anifest 2008 is now open for entries.
This is your chance to be part of Canterbury's second animation festival and be in with the chance of winning the Grand Prize of £1000.
The competition screening on Saturday 1st November will showcase work from the best student, amateur and independent filmmakers in the South East of England. Due to popular demand this year's festival has introduced a new competition category for filmmakers aged 17 years and under.
The Smallfilms Award has been created in response to the great work submitted to last year's festival from budding animators from across the region.
