Kent's landscape assessment
The Kent Landscape Assessment is a landscape character study
that draws together existing landscape character assessments of the
county.
It has been used to develop character-based strategies that will
ensure the continued distinctiveness of our landscape.
The Kent landscape assessment can be used in a variety of
forward planning strategies, in land management schemes and in
planning control. The objective is to make sure that decisions on
the rural landscape are backed up by a robust and widely accepted
assessment of the landscape character.
The Kent landscape assessment offers a broad-brush, strategic
approach. The main rational behind its development, is the
undertaking of detailed local studies to assess site specific
proposals.
Furthermore, local landscape assessments can be undertaken at a
district scale or for specific sites and areas. These can focus on
a greater level of detail and therefore can give more targeted
information.
