Mineral Sites Plan
One of the key
documents of the Minerals and Waste Development Framework is the
Mineral Sites Plan.
The minerals sites document will reflect the principles of
the Core Strategy. It will identify sites and
locations for mineral extraction, processing, importation and
safeguarding of provisions, including:
- sources of concreting sand and gravel, crushed rock,
building sand and secondary aggregates to provide for the
needs of Kent
- provisions for a landbank of reserves to meet the set
apportionment of primary land-won construction aggregates
- known sources of construction aggregates
- raw materials to maintain supply to existing individual brick
and tile works to meet regional policy requirements
- resources of raw material for cement manufacture to meet
national policy requirements and the supply and use of chalk for
non-cement purposes
- silica sand reserves to meet regional policy requirements
including consideration of safeguarding of high quality silica sand
reserves, and
- existing and proposed mineral importing wharves and rail
depots.
