Minerals and Waste Development Framework

The Government introduced a new system of preparing development plans under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004.

The Minerals and Waste Local Plans are to be replaced with a Local Development Framework, which we are producing as the minerals and waste planning authority.

The framework is like a 'folder' containing a collection of minerals and waste documents known as Local Development Documents (there are 2 types: Development Plan Documents and Supplementary Planning Documents).

The Kent Minerals and Waste Development Framework includes the following documents:

• Development Plan Documents are spatial planning documents which will form the minerals and waste development plan for Kent. We are preparing a Minerals and Waste Core Strategy, Mineral Sites Development Plan Document and Waste Management Development Plan Document.
• Supplementary Planning Documents are non statutory documents which can provide further details on policies and proposals set out in a 'parent' Development Plan Document
• The Statement of Community Involvement explains how Kent County Council plans to involve the community in the preparation of minerals and waste plans
• The Minerals and Waste Development Scheme sets out the programme for the preparation of Minerals and Waste planning documents
• The Annual Monitoring Report provides monitoring data on the progress of the Minerals and Waste Development Scheme and the performance of policies within any adopted Development Plan Documents
• An evidence base of studies, including a Sustainability Appraisal will support the policies and proposals of minerals and waste plans
• Proposal maps will show the policies and proposals for minerals and waste plans in Kent on an Ordnance Survey base.

One of the key aims of the planning system is to encourage greater community participation. Consultation documents will be published on the Planning Policy's consultation portal. You can comment on live consultations, or view existing comments and documents.
