Registers and searches
Each area of common land and village green is listed in the
Register under a unique unit number. Each unit number is prefixed
with either CL or VG, to identify the land as common land or
village green.
Each unit number is divided into three sections:
- The land section, which includes a description of the land,
details of the person who originally applied to register it and the
official date of registration of the land
- The rights section, which lists the rights of common which may
exist over the land and provides details of the commoners to whom
they belong
- The ownership section, which records the details of the last
known landowner (if applicable). However, this is not conclusive
evidence of ownership.
The Registers are available for public inspection and can be
viewed at County Hall in Maidstone during normal office hours, by
appointment only. Should you wish to view the Registers, please
contact us to make an appointment.
If you would like to find out whether a piece of land or a
property is registered as common land or as a village green, you
can apply to Kent County Council for a search of the Registers.
