Who collects my household waste?

Each household in Kent will produce an average of 1.33 tonnes of waste every year.

The twelve district and borough councils in Kent are responsible for collections of this domestic waste from homes.

Kent County Council is responsible for arranging disposal of this waste.

Medway Council as a unitary authority performs both these functions in the Medway area.

Reducing landfill

One of the key objectives of the waste management service is to shift disposal methods away from current dependence on landfill to sustainable alternatives, such as materials recovery and energy from waste.

Kent County Council and Medway Council also provide facilities for householders to dispose of waste and recyclables at household waste recycling centres.

Please contact Medway Council for details of the sites in their area on 01634 333333.

Many district and borough councils have introduced, or may introduce, kerbside recycling schemes whereby a bin, box or sack may be supplied.

The district and borough councils may also be responsible for placing recycling containers in public areas such as car parks.

Please contact your local council for details of waste collection and recycling facilities and schemes in your area.
