The structure plan was a long-term statutory land-use
policy document for the county which guided development, protected
important features of the environment, and influenced the location
and type of private and public investment.
The structure plan was superseded by the South East Plan
on 6 May 2009.
The South East Plan sets out the vision for the future of
region to 2026.
Structure plans set out general policies and proposals of
strategic importance, rather than detailed policies or site
specific proposals. Structure plans provide a strategic framework
which sets the basis for more detailed policies set in
local development frameworks (formerly district local plans)
and
local transport plans. They were also used in deciding
planning applications.
The Kent and Medway Structure Plan was relevant to a large range
of public, private and voluntary organisations as well as the wider
community.
