Your County - Putting Kent First

Kent 4 star Council

Planning consents

Consents in addition to planning permission may be required from the relevant borough or district council for some forms of development, such as works to listed buildings.

Consents for works to protected trees are only needed where an overall planning permission is not needed.

The planning officers at the borough or district council will be able to advise on these requirements. For more information please visit the contact details for council services in Kent page.

It is the responsibility of the applicant or agent to ensure such requirements are complied with.

Building regulations

Building regulations also apply to construction projects and this is a separate procedure from the planning process.

These regulations are concerned more with issues such as health and safety, disabled access and energy conservation.

Even though your building project may be given planning permission it still needs to be separately assessed by the borough or district council's building control section to ensure that it meets current building standards.
