Monitoring and enforcement

The planning department of Kent County Council performs diverse functions as part of its duty to monitor and enforce planning regulations.

The planning department's responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that quarries and waste sites operate to the highest environmental standards.
  • Working with mineral and waste operators to foster good working practices and the highest environmental standards.
  • Liaising with local communities, district, parish and neighbouring councils on enforcement related matters.
  • Monitoring planning permissions which have been granted to ensure compliance with the various conditions attached. This includes the guidance for operators of sites in Kent on how we will implement fees for monitoring of mining and landfill permissions.
  • Carrying out appropriate formal action against unauthorised waste or mineral developments.
  • Liaising with the Environment Agency in relation to waste management licensing issues and joint enforcement actions.
  • Follow the planning enforcement protocol, which includes internal protocols in order to remedy any breaches of regulations in county council developments.

For more information on planning enforcement please look at the planning enforcement protocol.
