Changes to the Kent Minerals and Waste Local
Plans
Not all of the policies contained in the
Local Plans are still in force. Under the transitional arrangements
of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, planning
authorities were required to apply to the Secretary of State for
Communities and Local Government to save the 'old style' Local Plan
policies beyond the initial three year transitional period, i.e.
beyond 27th September 2007.
On September 21 2007, the Secretary of State issued Directions
saving certain policies of the existing Minerals and Waste Local
Plans. The Directions issued for each of the Local Plans and the
schedules of the policies still in force are available to view
below:
While the Minerals and Waste Local Plans referred to Kent and
Medway, the schedules of saved policies apply only to the Kent
County Council area. For details of saved policies applicable to
the Medway area, contact Medway Council (link opens in a new
window).
Please note that all of these policies and proposals are being
reviewed through the preparation of the new
Minerals and Waste Development Framework (MWDF).

The Kent Waste Local Plan
The Kent Waste Local Plan, adopted in March 1998,
contains policies in respect of development which involves the
disposal of refuse or waste material in Kent and Medway.
It sets a county-wide strategy for waste disposal
until 2011, including the identification of specific site
opportunities for waste management and disposal facilities.
