Water
|
Water is a precious commodity, one which we, as a nation,
waste huge amounts. Here in Kent one only has to mention 'hose pipe
ban' to realise the effects of such waste.
Kent County Council has set an objective to reduce its annual
business water consumption. We will achieve this by implementing
our water policy and establishing countywide water efficiency
campaigns and measures.
We can all make a difference.
- At home, make sure every drop counts, for instance taking a
shower instead of a bath will save 60% in water use, not to mention
the energy savings.
- Another simple idea for your home is to put a 'hippo' (not the
mud wallowing type, but a device to reduce the amount of water
flushed) in your cistern. Most toilets will still function
effectively, and you will save three litres per flush. Since a
toilet is flushed five times a day, on average, you could end up
saving 5,500 litres annually.
- Make sure the tap is turned off when you brush or shave.
- Install a water butt to collect rainwater in your
garden.
