We can all do a bit more to help the environment and make
Kent a greener county. And it really is easy. Just turning off the
tap when you're cleaning your teeth will save five litres of water
every minute. Here are a few of the things you can do:
Top tips
You can find our top tips for going green on
25 ways to Green Kent.

Kent website (link opens in a new window).
Calculate your carbon footprint

change and

Walk, ride and cycle
Walking, riding and cycling can be great fun, help you keep fit,
and save you money on fares and parking charges. Doing more
walking,
riding and cycling, and less driving, will reduce pollution and
benefit the environment. Find out where you can walk, ride and
cycle with Explore
Kent.
Love Food, Hate Waste
Did you know that around 20% of our climate change emissions are
related to the production, processing, transportation and storage
of food. But we are throwing away a third of all the food we buy!
That's an average cost of £400 per family per year.
Have a look at our
Love Food, Hate Waste pages. You will find lots of ideas on how
to reduce the amount of food you waste and to save money on the
Love Food, Hate Waste top tips page.
Of course, some food waste like potato peelings can't be eaten
but it can be turned into
compost. You can order a
subsidised compost bin from us.
Recycle for Kent
Many materials such as paper, cardboard, metal, glass and
textiles can be taken to your local
Household Waste Recycling Centre to be recycled or reused.
Car share
When you're driving to work, school, or even just going out with
friends, could you share your journey? You could save money, reduce
congestion and help the environment. It's free to register with
Kentcarshare.
Another initiative where you can hire a car for as little as one
hour, is
Streetcar.
