Heritage advice

Advice on issues relating to archaeology and historic buildings is provided by the Council's Heritage Conservation Geam.

We help planners and construction companies to plan new developments in a way that will not have an adverse impact on our heritage.

By considering the potential impact on our heritage of new developments in the area we are able to ensure that this legacy is preserved for future generations to enjoy.

What sort of advice is provided by the heritage conservation team?

Archaeological and historic buildings advice is provided to ensure that the historic environment is dealt with appropriately by the planning process.

We can advise on the location and nature of any historical or archaeological sites which may be within an area of proposed development.

Who do they advise?

The Heritage Conservation Group provides advice to Kent's 12 district and borough councils and to Medway Unitary Authority.

The group provides advice where Kent County Council is the planning authority and for exceptional developments such as the channel tunnel rail link.

The group also provides advice to developers so that they can take the historic environment into account at an early stage of their proposals.
