There is little doubt that our climate is
changing. Scientists are now more than 90% certain that this
change cannot be explained by natural variation alone and is
linked to man-made greenhouse gas emissions.
There is also political agreement that climate change is a high
priority issue, requiring a concerted response from central and
local government.
The question now is how do we adapt to the changes already set
in motion and how do we prevent the situation becoming even
worse?
Kent County Council recognises that climate change is happening
and that KCC has a critical role in helping Kent's businesses,
communities and individuals understand and prepare for the impacts
of climate change, as well as playing their part in reducing those
impacts. Some climate change is already unavoidable and will
require us to adapt to the inevitable and reduce emissions to
minimise future climate change.
This section sets out what climate change means for Kent, what
we are doing to take action in response and how you can help to
make a difference. We have made some good progress but we have more
to do in Kent and we welcome your suggestions.
