Youth Takeover Week 2010

Youth Takeover WeekKent Youth Service is gearing itself up for Youth Takeover Week, which takes place this year from 5 - 12 November. This national event is led by the Children's Commissioner for England and culminates in '11 Million Youth Takeover Day' on Friday 12 November.

This is a real opportunity for young people (aged 11-19) to gain experience of working with adult decision makers at all levels, and to develop their understanding of how decisions are made across a range of public services. We have decided to run this event over a one week period to maximise the range of opportunities open for young people.

We have asked young people what they would like to do during this week, and they have told us they would like to:

  • work shadow Councillors and Cabinet Members
  • have Councillors shadow them for a day
  • work with the Green Guardians/Environmental team
  • work with Highways and Transport
  • work with the KCC Media Team
  • work shadow managers within KCC, with a particular interest from young women in shadowing female managers
  • work with the people who make decisions about schools
  • get involved in business and enterprise
  • work with the Media - for example, KMFM
