Partnership with Parents (Kent Parent Partnership)
What is Kent Parent Partnership Service?
Every Local Authority (like Kent County Council) must provide a
service for parents of disabled children and children with Special
Educational Needs (SEN).
We operate at arm’s length from the council and provide
confidential, impartial advice and support. We are overseen by
a steering group and at least half the members of that group must
be parents. We aim to empower the parents, carers and families
of disabled children and children with special educational needs to
be confident to take an active and informed role in their child’s
education and development. One of the many ways we do this is to
provide you with free independent, confidential, impartial advice
and support.
Our experienced team is available to listen and discuss any
issues around your child’s education and development in complete
confidence.
We can:
- be available and accessible to answer questions
- provide face to face support
- offer time to discuss issues in depth and explore options
- provide up-to-date, impartial advice and information on
Additional and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
- support at meetings with schools and/or the Local
Authority
- provide information about other agencies and processes
- help you plan how to communicate your views or concerns
- help you to prepare paperwork
- help you through the education system
- act as a neutral facilitator at meetings
- support you with appeals to the SEN and Disability
Tribunal
- provide training in communication, participation and SEN
processes.
