School meals

Every day more than 50,000 school meals are served in Kent. Many schools have a contract with a private contractor arranged by Kent County Council (KCC) to supply meals. View the contractor's page for further information. Other schools arrange their own meals.

The main objective is to provide an affordable, well-balanced nutritious meal that encourages healthy eating.

Within schools that arrange their own meals, the governing body is responsible for ensuring the service meets government and KCC standards.

Benefits

  • It is more convenient not needing to make a packed lunch.
  • They will have the chance to try new foods.
  • They can benefit from eating with others and therefore develop their social skills.
  • The nutritionally balanced meals will also help with their concentration during the afternoon lessons.
