Support with transport
We offer help with school transport to families who need it, but
not everyone is eligible for our help, you can download our
Home to School Transport Guide for more details. You can
also get a copy from your primary school or the Transport Team at
County Hall, Sessions House - telephone 01622 696565.
Who is eligible for help with school transport?
- Children attending their nearest appropriate school
- Children under 8 years old who live over 2 miles from their
school by the shortest available walking route
- Children over 8 years old who live over 3 miles from their
school by the shortest available walking route.
- Children who attend a denominational (church) school who have
had their transport application signed by the vicar/priest.
Only children who are regular and practising members of a church of
the same denomination as their school would be eligible for
transport on these grounds.
How is the distance measured between home and the school?
Distance from home to school is measured by the shortest
available walking route. This does take into account public
footpaths and is a route that a child, accompanied as necessary,
can walk to and from school with reasonable safety to
school.
Nearest appropriate school
Your nearest appropriate school will be the closest school to your
home address that is suitable for your child's needs. If you're not
sure which school is your nearest appropriate school is, you can
call our home to school transport team to check. It may not always
be the school of your choice.
When we decide which your nearest appropriate school is, we can't
take into account your wishes for:
- a single-sex school
- a mixed-sex school
- a school with a specialism or a particular type of school (a
sports college, for example)
