Breakfast clubs
Frequently asked questions
What is a breakfast club?
Breakfast clubs, usually run in schools, offer children a
supervised and safe place to go before school. They will, in most
cases, also provide a healthy breakfast and other activities.
Breakfast clubs are particularly useful if your child arrives early
at school.
Is there one at my school?
Talk to your school about what additional services and
activities (called extended services) they can provide your family,
including breakfast clubs. If the school does not directly provide
a breakfast club on site they will be able to let you know where
there is another one in your community. This may be at another
nearby school or childcare facility.
If not is there another one close by that I can use?
If there is a need for a breakfast club in your community, your
school should know where it is. Not every school is able to provide
a breakfast club direct on site but every school should be able to
help you find out if there is one nearby.
How much does it cost?
This will entirely depend on the individual breakfast club. Some
are free but some do charge a small amount. Again speak to your
school about costs.
What time does it open?
Again this will vary depending on the breakfast club but
generally from 8am until the start of the school day.
What breakfast foods are available?
The breakfast will be wholesome and healthy but exactly what is
served will depend on the club and vary from day to day. Skipping
breakfast can mean poor energy levels and concentration levels in
the first half of the school day. Therefore eating a healthy
breakfast can help improve academic performance and encourage
future healthy eating habits.
Breakfast clubs have also improved punctuality and
attendance.
