Learning Destinations

Kent childrens university logoHow do they work?

The scheme allows children to take part in Kent Children's University accredited activities at a range of venues across Kent.  These venues range from tourist destinations to after-school clubs.

Each venue which is part of the scheme has produced an activity booklet which the children complete during a visit.

If you have difficulty viewing this video, please visit the video help page.

Schools and external providers which are affiliated to the scheme can accredit children's out of schools hours learning by stamping their Passport to Learning.

Each completed activity is worth a number of credits. When a child has collected 30, 65 or 100 credits they can exchange them for a national Children's University Certificate. Find out how to take part.

Learning Destinations benefits everyone who joins in:

Children

  • Find out about a new subject or follow and existing interest.
  • Visit any venue in the county, and not be limited to those within their area .
  • Take part in the scheme whenever they want, not just on Saturdays as was previously the case .

Parents

  • The scheme provides an informal structured learning activity to enjoy with your children.
  • There is no cost for the activity booklets. (Standard entrance fees may still apply.)
  • Your child will be benefitting both educationally and having their confidence increased as we accredit their success.

Schools

  • Schools will be able to signpost pupils to the activities as part of their Extended Schools provision.
  • Schools can begin to track what after-school activities their pupils attend.
  • Family Liaison Officers can use the Learning Destinations Scheme to encourage reluctant learners, and celebrate their successes.

Venues and external providers

  • Each venue will have more visitors as more families take part in the scheme.
  • Venues gain increased publicity via the nationally acclaimed Kent Children's University scheme.
  • Venues will be offered help from teaching professionals to create valuable learning resources.
  • External Providers will have their activities publicised via the KCU website and will be able to accredit children’s learning with them.

Kent Children's University

  • We can offer more children the chance to take part in our informal out-of-school-hours learning programmes.
  • We are able to reduce costs and operate more efficiently.
  • We get increased publicity at the host venues.
