Kent Children's University hubs
From September 2010
Kent Children's University courses will be delivered from
three hub campuses.
These campuses will be located at:
- Canterbury High School
- Homewood School, Tenterden
- Sittingbourne Community College.
Each venue will offer the more traditional Kent Children's
University model consisting of tutor-run sessions occurring during
holiday time and Saturday mornings. These sessions will be open to
a range of young people from the host hubs and other schools in the
locality.
All activities at these hubs, including publicity and allocation
of places, will be managed by hub managers within each school. Each
of the hubs will work in partnership with the others and with Kent
Children's University.
Issues relating to hub based activities should be referred to
the hub managers who will be named on their publicity material.
All hub-based activities will earn credits in the Passport to
Learning in the same way as visiting a Learning Destination
does.

Canterbury
The second year of Kent Children's University - at the
Canterbury Children’s University campus - saw a number of changes
in courses, tutors and children attending. The five sessions took
place with 30 courses being delivered in a wider range of areas
than year 1 – we introduced Cooking with the chefs, Film making and
Making music alongside the ever popular art, drama, science and
craft courses. All sessions were quality Assured in
planning, delivery and evaluation. There were 16 tutors
enabling students to follow the wide variety of courses utilising
different learning styles and excellent facilities. The
learning destinations have been on the width of The Campus site
enabling the children to participate in properly equipped
facilities
Children from 10 secondary schools, 1 special school and 22 primary
schools attended, making a total of 123 children making the contact
for the university through the two years to be 171 children.
Between them these children have completed 3478 hours of learning
on Saturday mornings from 9.30am – 12noon.
Feedback from both students and parents has influenced the planning
and development of courses and the tutors have been pleased to
expand their original planning to ensure that courses are
interesting and developing for the students. Year 3 has started
with a bang, introducing yet more new courses – theatre set design
and street dance. All courses are full and we will soon be
advertising the next module of activities. For further information
