Two-tier education on the Isle of Sheppey Consultation

Kent County Council published Public Notices on proposals for a two tier system of education on the Isle of Sheppey on 2 April 2008. The complete proposals for the Primary Phase and the Secondary Phase together with Appendices referred to in the documents are available below.

On 25 July 2008 the Schools Adjudicator approved KCC's proposals for a two-tier system with the condition that Ministers agree the establishment of an Academy on the Minster College and Cheyne Middle School sites within 15 working days of the date of the determination.

On 13 August 2008 the Department for Children, Schools and Families confirmed the signing of the Funding Agreement to establish the new Academy on the Isle of Sheppey in September 2009.

With the agreement in place, Kent County Council can confirm that the proposals for a two-tier system of education will be implemented as detailed below.

Children who were in Year 4 in a first school in the 2007/08 school year will remain in their present schools in September 2008 as part of Year 5.

On 21 May 2008 Mr Mark Dance, Cabinet member for Operations Resources and Skills, CFHE, having considered the representations to the public notices and the responses to the public consultation decided to support the Managing Director, CFHE, the Diocese of Canterbury and the three relevant Chairs of Governors in implementing the proposals as outlined in the two public notices published on 2 April 2008.
