District: Sevenoaks

The young adults of today are the driving force for tomorrow!  It is our job to start to lead the campaigns and talks against many issues that face our community. I believe this is a great opportunity to start tackling these problems and would feel privileged to be part of such a scheme. I already contribute to my own school council and find it enjoyable and rewardsing to help resolve concerns that are raised.

I think working on a grander scale would be even more rewarding and provide a sense of fulfillment. Being part of a younger community, I feel the frustrations that many others around me also feel. Transport costs are a common aggravation that faces the majority of our society. This is something that is continually challenged but where there is a problem, there is always a resolution.

I am campaigning on the following issues:

  1. Transport - Transport in the Sevenoaks area is highly expensive.  Currently, Sevenoaks Train station is the most expensive for train tickets per mile in our area.  I see no reason for this and surely it should be the same across the board.. The difference in price between child and adult tickets is extraordinary and unjustifiable for the young adults of today.  Not only the sheer cost of the train tickets should be challenged, but also the costs of travel for sixth form students.  Education is something to be revered and valued.  Taking education to the next step is somewhat difficult for those who simply cannot afford the travel expenses and is an issue many face.  Let's fight this battle and open up travel for those who currently find it impossible to cope with.
  2. Advertising - How many adverts on TV explain the ease and availability of loans and gambling when presently we face an economic climate that is crumbling before us?  Loans that charge interests into the thousands trap so many vulnerable before they are even aware of it.  These types of adverts should be banned from our viewing or at least limited.  Gambling is seen as an addictive habit that can destroy lives.  It is not a quick and easy solution to money problems which is sometimes conveyed on the television.  Adverts for drinking are now aired after the watershed, why aren't adverts for gambling?  It is just as addictive and has the same opportunity of destroying lives.
