Options after A-level results

A-level results day is a day of mixed emotions. For those who have achieved their desired results, there is jubilation. For those who haven't, there is the prospect of having to re-evaluate their next steps. This does not need to be a daunting process. There are many options available for students leaving school.

University

If you want to go to university and have narrowly missed the conditions of your offer, telephone the institution in question and ask if they will still consider you. Alternately, course vacancies are advertised on the UCAS website. If you see a vacancy you are interested in, talk to the admissions staff at the universities and colleges with places available. Staff will be able to tell you whether they are prepared to offer you a place.

Gap Year

You may wish to consider withdrawing your application for university and reapplying next year. In the meantime, why not undertake a gap programme, such as KCC's. Gap programmes are a great way to gain confidence, new skills, experience, maturity and direction. Please see Kent's gap year jobs pages or organisations such as Real Gap or gapyear.com (please note KCC does not endorse these programmes over alternatives).

Work

Maybe it is time to join the world of work and start earning a salary. There are great opportunities out there.  If you are not sure which work you would like to undertake, perhaps some work experience would help. Please see the Kent jobs and careers pages for more information

Apprenticeship

If you have a vocation in mind, why not start an apprenticeship. Call KCC's contact centre on 08458 247 247 to learn more about all Kent based apprenticeships, both public and private.

Re-sit your exams

If there were particular circumstances on the day of the examination that you believe had a negative impact on your performance, you may wish to consider re-sitting the exam. In this instance, talk to your teachers about why you didn't do so well in your exams and whether it's worth another try.
