Lead School Implementation - Newsletter November 2008
In 2003, following the review of special schools across Kent,
Members agreed the need to review Specialist Provision and support
for children with Special Educational Needs in mainstream
schools.
The objectives of this Review are to:
- ensure that the provision of education reflects the changing
learning difficulties and disabilities of children and young
people
- support mainstream schools in becoming more inclusive and
accessible in line with the requirements of the Disability
Discrimination Act
- provide appropriate complementary provision to that available
in special schools
- reduce the long distances travelled by many children.

Unit Review Draft Criteria
The documents on the page above describe the needs of children
and young people that can be met by certain types of Cluster Lead
Schools. The criteria are intended to provide a common framework
that can be applied consistently across Kent in all decisions about
access to Cluster Lead schools.
They will also provide clear information for parents and carers,
headteachers, governors and practitioners in education, health and
social services about how decisions are
made. |
