Private Finance Initiative

Funded by £82 million from the Government's Private Finance Initiative (PFI), the Kent Grouped Schools PFI Project aims to rebuild and/or refresh the buildings of six Kent secondary schools.

Over 85% of these buildings are being replaced with new purpose-built accommodation to ensure that learners have access to modern teaching facilities fit for the delivery of education in the 21st century.

For details of the schools involved and the latest construction update, please see below:

  • Aylesford School Sports College, near Maidstone
    Update: December 2007: The majority of pupils are in new teaching facilities. The remaining new and refurbished teaching areas are scheduled to open in December. Final ground works (car parking and landscaping) should be completed by early 2008.

  • Ellington School for Girls, Ramsgate
    Update: December 2007: The school is now fully open and ground works complete. The new buildings have been well-received by both pupils and staff.

  • Holmesdale Technology College, Snodland
    Update: December 2007: All teaching areas have been completed and ground works (car parking and landscaping) are in progress and should be completed by early 2008.

  • Hugh Christie Technology College, Tonbridge
    Update: December 2007: The school is now fully open and ground works are in progress. All work should be completed by the end of 2007.

  • The Malling School, East Malling
    Update: December 2007: All teaching areas have been completed and ground works (car parking and landscaping) are in progress and due for completion by early 2008.

  • The North School, Ashford
    Update: December 2007: The final stage, including refurbished teaching areas a new sports hall, is in progress and due to be completed by the end of 2007. Once finished, ground works (car parking and landscaping) will begin.
