The Kent Story

Kent's primary schools have been invited to take part in an exciting and unique storytelling experience to mark the National Year of Reading -The Kent Story.Mark Dance reading to children at Chantry

Kent County Council Leader Paul Carter penned an opening chapter for twelve books, one for each district, which will travel from school to school with pupils writing their own contribution to continue the tale.

An extract from Paul's writing:

"Matt Reagan entered the World on a sweltering hot and humid mid Chris Wells at Drapers Mills primarysummer day in June 1920. No great surprise to his father Dick Reagan who 18 months previously had returned from the trenches of the Somme, to almost immediately marry his childhood sweetheart Rosie Bliss, the local blacksmith's daughter. However, what was a massive surprise - twenty minutes later a second child was delivered a tiny 4 ½ lb baby girl to be named Lily Reagan.

What did the world have in store for little Lily and Matt?"

The Kent Story will be guided by the imaginations of the county's young writers and artists who add to the tale, and you can follow updates on the progress of the story here. The finished books will be on display at County Hall, Maidstone and then in libraries across the county.
