Educating your child at home

Kent County Council understands, respects and accepts the right of parents/carers to educate their children at home.

The Educating Children at Home leaflet offers information and guidance to parents/carers who are considering or have decided to educate their children at home.

Why home educate?

Home education is an option that families from many walks of life consider to meet the needs of their children. For some families it is a decision based on their philosophical, religious or spiritual outlook, for others it may be that they simply feel it is the best way of educating their children. There are many different styles of home-education and parent/carers are free to use the method which is right for them and their children.

KCC has an Education at Home Consultant (CEHC) who works with parents who are home educating their children.

Return to school

If parents/carers wish their child/children to go or return to school, they should make a direct application to an appropriate school. Also it would be helpful to inform Admissions and Transport that they no longer wish to educate their child/children at home. The department is very willing to offer advice and help in securing a school placement.
