How much time does being a governor take up?
|
Most governing bodies meet once or twice a term, either in
the afternoon or evening. In addition:
- you could expect to serve on a committee responsible for a
particular area of work, such as finance or curriculum. (Most
committees also meet once or twice a term)
- you would need to get to know the school through regular
visits, and supporting events like concerts and prize giving
- all new governors are provided with a pack of induction
materials. You would need to spend some time on training. All
governors are offered a place on an induction session, designed
specifically for new governors.
Under employment law employers must give employees who are
school governors 'reasonable time off' to perform their duties. The
employee and employer have to agree on what constitutes reasonable
time off. An employer may, if they choose give time off with pay,
but they do not have to. |
