Removing your child from the educational roll
Parents have a right to educate their children of
compulsory school age otherwise than at school. Local Authorities
(LAs) are responsible for ensuring that any such arrangements
provide a suitable education for the child concerned.
Where parents notify the school in writing of their intention to
educate their child at home, the school may delete the pupil's name
from the register after informing the LA within 10 school days of
receipt of the letter.
The leaflet below gives details of what schools are required to
do when removing a child from their school roll.

Educating your child at home
The Education Act 1996 gives parents the right to educate their
child at home. You must provide an education suitable to the age,
ability, aptitude and any special educational need of the
child.
