A degree or other higher education qualification can open
up opportunities which can lead to a better-paid job and, in the
longer term, improved promotion prospects and earnings potential.
Currently (2007) according to the former Department for Education
and Skills (DfES), around a quarter of all people of working age in
England have degree level qualifications.
Of the estimated 18 million jobs which are expected to become
vacant by 2020, it is anticipated that around half are likely to be
in occupations which will require a higher education qualification.
A wide range of national information is provided through the
Graduate
Prospects website.
